Nomadic Life, Unhurried

Two nights on the Song-Kul pasture when the road allows — yurts, optional horses, and hosts who receive guests, not a costume performance.

5 days Naryn & Song-KulJune–SeptemberModerate Private journey

This itinerary is designed by Oasia. Local partners verify prices, availability, safety, and operations before a booking is confirmed. It is not copied from another platform’s catalog, and it is not already field-verified.

A slower cultural journey built around jailoo pastures and time with host families. Song-Kul is the usual heart of this itinerary; the exact camp depends on season, weather, and who is receiving guests. Two nights on the pasture is the default, because one night is a glimpse and two is a stay. Hosts will be named after a field visit — not before. We do not sell a museum lifestyle or a staged ‘nomad show’. Eagle visits, if you want one, are a separate, carefully screened day.

Day by day

01
Bishkek and the road south

Leave the capital for the mountains. A gorge or viewpoint stop, then a first night in a village guesthouse near Kochkor or similar — not yet on the high lake. Overnight: Kochkor area or similar.

02
Onto the jailoo

Climb toward Song-Kul. Settle into a yurt, walk without a schedule, and share meals with your hosts. This is hospitality, not a performance. Overnight: Song-Kul yurt camp.

03
A full day on the pasture

The second night is why we came. Optional horse riding matched to ability, a longer walk, or staying close to camp. No costume timetable. Overnight: Song-Kul yurt camp.

04
Descend, without rushing the morning

A last look at the lake, then the road to Kochkor or Naryn depending on weather and your energy. Overnight: Village guesthouse.

05
Return to Bishkek

Descend toward the capital with time for a craft stop if you wish.

Not included

How you travel

Accommodation. Yurts on the pasture and simple village guesthouses. Expect shared facilities, limited hot water, and genuine quiet. Comfort upgrades are possible before and after the mountain nights.

Transportation. Private vehicle on mountain roads. The last approach to camp may involve a rougher track. Weather can close the pass even in summer.

Physical requirements. Short walks at around 3,000 m. Horse riding is optional. Altitude can affect sleep even for fit travelers.

What to bring

  • Warm clothing for cold nights
  • Closed shoes for camp and horses
  • Headlamp
  • Personal toiletries; camps are simple

Safety considerations

  • Song-Kul is high, exposed, and weather-prone. Summer snow is possible.
  • Horses are working animals; riding always carries risk.
  • Medical care is distant from the pasture.

Cancellation

Changes and cancellations are handled according to your written booking confirmation. Supplier rules for stays, horses, and trekking support can differ. See the cancellation policy draft and ask Oasia to confirm the terms that would apply to your dates.

Permits and route registration

Some itineraries may involve border-zone permits, park fees, or route-related paperwork depending on the season and exact route. Oasia will confirm what is relevant after a local review. Do not treat this page as a permit checklist.

Questions

You stay with hosts who receive travelers on the jailoo. This is hospitality, not a performance of a museum lifestyle. Arrangements depend on who is in the mountains that week. We will not invent a family name until the field person has visited.
