Ala-Kul trekking preparation
Fitness, altitude, weather humility, and insurance — before you fall in love with a photograph of turquoise water.
What the trek actually is
A multi-day walk from the Karakol side to a high lake and, often, a steep pass toward Altyn Arashan. It is rocky, weather-exposed, and high. It is not a boardwalk.
Preparation that helps
Regular hiking with a pack in the months before you travel, honest fitness notes to your planner, and a buffer day. Guides may turn around. That is a professional decision, not a failed holiday.
Altitude, in plain numbers
The lake and pass sit at roughly 3,500–3,900 metres (about 11,500–12,800 feet). Sleeping high can disturb anyone. Discuss heart, lung, or previous altitude problems before you book.

What to pack for Kyrgyzstan
Layers, sun, and decent shoes matter more than a clever capsule wardrobe. Altitude evenings are cold even in July.

Insurance is recommended and is not included in an Oasia journey unless your confirmation says so. Trekking needs extra attention.
